Lake Rules

TOWN OF MUKWONAGO PHANTOM LAKE ORDINANCES

THE TOWN OF MUKWONAGO HAS ENACTED THE FOLLOWING
ORDINANCES IN ADDITION TO STATE LAWS:

* SPEED LIMIT:

40 MPH EXCEPT DURING THE FOLLOWING:
Slow No Wake 7:00 PM or sunset whichever comes first – sunrise AM Monday – Friday
Slow No Wake 5:00 PM – sunrise Saturday’s and Sundays

* No racing on any lakes
* Water-skiing in counterclockwise pattern only
* No water-skiing any day before 10:00 AM
* No water-skiing anytime after 7:00 PM Monday – Friday
* No water-skiing anytime after 5:00 PM Saturday or Sunday
* Aquaplanes and parasailing are prohibited
* No swimming from unmanned boats unless anchored
* No swimming more than 150 feet from shore or 50 feet from
raft/boat
* No person shall swim, wade, or otherwise loiter in any way, in the channel between Upper Phantom Lake and Lower Phantom Lake, at any time except as expressly authorized in writing by the Town of Mukwonago Chief of Police. No parent shall allow or fail to prevent their minor child from, swimming, wading or otherwise loitering in anyway in the channel between Upper Phantom Lake and Lower Phantom Lake, at any time.

Phantom Lakes Ordinances


Boating License

Anyone born on or after January 1, 1991 is required to complete a boating safety course to legally operate a motorized boat or personal watercraft (PWC) on Wisconsin waters. DNR Conservation Wardens recommend all boat operators complete a safety course. Learn more

Boat Wisconsin Course – A three-hour course split into short segments that are designed for easy comprehension and quick learning. This course has the identical text that students study in DNR’s classroom courses, with more than 200 realistic drawings, more than an hour of streaming videos and interactive animations. Learn more

BoaterExam.com- Suitable for boaters of any age and reading skills. This course takes a minimum of three hours to complete. Learn more

Additional online boating courses

Wisconsin Boat Rental Course – A course for Wisconsin residents and visitors who do not already possess a valid boating education certificate, but who wish to rent a boat or personal watercraft (PWC) to operate on Wisconsin waters. The course covers all the information you’ll need to know to receive your temporary boating certificate. Learn more


Aquatic Weed Harvesting Permit

August 2024, we received our new harvesting permit for Lower Phantom Lake. This plan will be in affect until 2027.
